Eligibility

Individuals living outside Japan (curators, researchers, educators, conservators, etc.); Must hold nationality or permanent residency in a country with diplomatic relations with Japan; Must be in good physical and mental health; Must be proficient in Japanese or English; Must be able to stay continuously in Japan for the fellowship term

Requirements

Research project related to Japanese visual arts with clear objectives; Project must necessitate travel to Japan for intensive research; Main target area is contemporary Japanese art; Priority for projects planning to share results widely (exhibitions, publications); Must not violate own country's laws by receiving fellowship; Cannot apply for other Japan Foundation grant programs
