Eligibility

Must have earned a 3.0 overall GPA to qualify.; May petition the AAS Curriculum Committee if GPA is below 3.0, with faculty supervisor approval.

Requirements

A minimum of 8 in-person or remote meetings between student and faculty supervisor.; A written schedule.; A written paper/project topic.; A written annotated bibliography (for academic research).; A written outline (for academic research).; A 20-page minimum paper (for academic research).

How to apply

Decide on a topic and approach an appropriate faculty member.; Obtain supervisor's signature on the Independent Study Form.; Submit the signed form to Minor 108 or via email to woodson@virginia.edu.; Create a written time-table for meetings and deadlines with the supervisor.
