Subject Matter Eligibility Guidelines

Guidelines for determining subject matter eligibility for research and training proposals submitted to SSHRC, NSERC, and CIHR.

Eligibility
Proposed research must be primarily in the social sciences and humanities.; Intended outcome must primarily add to understanding of individuals, groups, and societies.; Use of social sciences/humanities theories/methodologies alone is not sufficient.; Health-related research should consult CIHR's mandate first.; Psychology research eligible areas: social, developmental, personality, educational.
How to apply
Apply to the agency responsible for the dominant research discipline.; State clearly why proposals are primarily appropriate for the agency.; Contact institutional research services office for guidance.; Seek advice from the appropriate program officer.; Do not submit the same application to more than one agency.
