Application FAQs - Summer Health Professions Education Program
Frequently asked questions about the SHPEP application process, eligibility, transcripts, recommendations, and program sunsetting. Includes details on GPA, high school students, and reapplicants.
Minimum GPA of 2.5 is encouraged, but strong interest in health professions is considered.; High school diploma or GED required at time of application.; Community college students eligible if they have not exceeded 60 earned college credits.; Exclusively for freshman, sophomore, and junior college students (max 90 credits).; AP/IB credits do not count toward the 90-credit limit.
Requirements
Official transcript required from each U.S., U.S. territorial, and Canadian institution with attempted coursework.; High school transcripts are not accepted for freshmen; wait for first semester grades.; Current transcripts are required each application year.; Recommendation can be from a prehealth advisor, college professor, employer in health professions, or science/math high school teacher.; Teaching assistants can submit recommendations if acting as instructor.
Application materials
Transcripts from all attended colleges.; Letters of recommendation.
How to apply
Review all sections of the application to ensure no required fields are missed.; Check application dashboard for status updates (may take up to 10 business days).; Program sites receive applications after National Program Office processes materials.; Application submission is confirmed by 'Submitted' status on the dashboard.; Designated program sites cannot be changed after submission.
Important dates
Application closes February 5, 2026.; Save submitted application by August 31 of the summer applied.
