Must have completed or will complete an advanced terminal research degree (PhD) between May 1, 2023, and September 30, 2025.; Clinicians must complete or will complete clinical training between May 1, 2023, and September 30, 2025.; Cannot have served as a postdoctoral fellow for 12 months or more before May 1, 2023.; Must be in a non-independent research position at the time of application submission.; Institution must submit the application and guarantee an independent research position.
Requirements
Research must be highly innovative with potential for unusually broad impact.; Must fit NIH mission and goals.; Must fit the purpose of the Early Independence Award (accelerate entry into independent research career).; Commit at least 9.6 person-months to the project for years 1-2, and for independent research for years 3-5.; U.S.-based institutions only; no U.S. citizenship requirement for applicant.
