The Jill Smythies Award
Award for botanical artists recognizing excellence in published illustrations for plant identification. Nominations are open until September 30, 2026.
Open to any botanical artist of any nationality or age.; Nominee cannot be a member of Council at the time of nomination.; Nominee does not need to be a Fellow of the Society.; Self-nominations are not accepted.; Nominations cannot be made by a family member.
Requirements
Artwork must be outstanding botanical art, accurate, and aid identification.; Subject matter may include algae, fungi, or plants.; Submitted work should include two or more items of the same taxonomic group for comparison.; Works must be published botanical illustrations with accompanying text.; Minimum of five examples from at least two publications.; Digital work is eligible.

Completed nomination form; Minimum of five examples of the nominee's work; Relevant text accompanying each illustration; Hard copy or PDFs of work (or links to Open Access journals)
