Preference for younger scholars who have received the doctorate; Graduate students may apply for research on master’s theses or doctoral dissertations; Applicants conducting research with Indigenous communities must provide information on contacts and consultation status; Committee sometimes approves two awards to the same person within a five-year period
Requirements
Research must be in Native American linguistics, ethnohistory, or history of studies of Native Americans in the continental United States and Canada; Recipients must provide a brief formal report; Library requests physical or digital copies of field notes, recordings, or other original materials for archiving; Projects in archaeology, ethnography, or psycholinguistics are not eligible; Funds cannot be used for permanent equipment or pedagogical materials
