Must be a U.S.A. citizen.; Born on or after April 2, 1992 (exceptions may apply).; Completed 16 years of school education or equivalent.; Must be willing to learn Japanese and understand Japanese culture.; Must submit a health certificate.

Requirements

Academic background requirements vary for Master's, Doctoral (first phase), and Doctoral (second phase) courses.; Must obtain a "Student" visa before traveling to Japan.; Not eligible if currently military personnel or civilian employees.; Not eligible if a previous MEXT scholarship grantee (with some exceptions).; Not eligible if currently applying to another MEXT scholarship program.

Arrival in Japan: April term (April 1-7, 2027) or October term (within two weeks of academic term start).
