Eligibility

Full-time graduate student at a U.S. school; Expected graduation no earlier than the end of the 2026-2027 school year; U.S. citizen; Interest in high energy lasers, high power microwaves, pulsed lasers, or counter directed energy weapons; Applicant and advisor must not have received international/foreign funding within the last 10 years

Requirements

Maintain full-time graduate status; Participate in a virtual mid-year check-in; Submit a PDF of presentation slides for the mid-year check-in; Acknowledge DEPS and ONR in research presentations; Respond to scholar close-out questions; Encouraged to present research at the DE Student Workshop

Application materials

Completed DEPS graduate research grant application; Official transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate work; Letter of interest (1-2 pages); Statement of proposed research (1-10 pages); Letter of reference from a potential or current graduate research advisor
