PhD candidate at a university in the United States; working on a dissertation related to painting, sculpture and allied arts from the twentieth century; completed all of their coursework and examinations and been advanced to Candidacy within their departments; focused primarily on researching and writing their dissertations; Nominees need not be U.S. citizens
Requirements
Candidacy for the fellowship is by nomination only; Each September, doctoral art history programs throughout the country are invited to propose one nominee
Application materials
description of their dissertation; biographical statement; curriculum vitae; transcript of graduate level coursework; three letters of reference
How to apply
Nominees receive application guidelines via e-mail once nominations are submitted to the Foundation; Applicants must have three referees submit letters directly to the Foundation
Important dates
nominations beginning September 15, 2025; Deadline for applications and letters of reference is December 2, 2025, 5 p.m. EST
