European citizens working in Europe or overseas; Non-European citizens pursuing PhD projects in Europe; First university entrance qualification must not have been completed more than 8 years (96 months) ago; Natural scientists must have been awarded their last university degree (BSc, MSc, diploma, or equivalent) before embarking on PhD; Physicians, veterinary surgeons, and pharmacists must have passed state examinations; Must apply when about to start or have just started PhD project (no more than 6 months prior to deadline)
Requirements
Experimental projects in basic biomedical research; Projects aimed at elucidating basic biological phenomena of human life; No regular personal income from an employer allowed while funded (one marginal contract of up to 5 hours/week may be acceptable); Must notify BIF if application is submitted to other research-sponsoring institutions
