European citizens working in Europe or overseas; Non-European citizens pursuing their PhD projects in Europe; First university entrance qualification must not have been completed more than 8 years (96 months) ago; Natural scientists must have been awarded their last university degree (BSc, diploma, MSc, or equivalent) before embarking on their PhD; Physicians, veterinary surgeons, and pharmacists must have passed their state examinations; Project must be experimental and in the field of basic biomedical research
Requirements
Only one candidate per laboratory may receive a fellowship at the same time; No regular personal income from an employer allowed while funded; One working contract of up to five hours a week yielding marginal income may be acceptable; Must notify BIF if application is submitted to other research-sponsoring institutions
