Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship
The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program provides grants for U.S. undergraduate students of limited financial means to pursue credit-bearing study abroad or international internships.

- Up to $5,000 for up to one academic year of undergraduate study abroad
- Supplemental Critical Need Language Award of up to $3,000 for students studying a critical need language abroad
- Supplemental STEM Award of up to $1,000 for conducting STEM-related coursework or internships abroad
Overview
- Undergraduate student (two-year and four-year institutions)
- Undergraduate
- Must be an undergraduate student in good standing at an accredited institution of higher education in the United States (including both two-year and four-year institutions)
- Must be receiving a Federal Pell Grant during the time of application or provide proof of receiving a Pell Grant during the study abroad program or internship term
- Must be in the process of applying to, or accepted to, a credit-bearing study abroad or internship program
- Study abroad program must be in a country or location with an overall U.S. Department of State Travel Advisory Level 1 or Level 2
- Recipients can only receive the Gilman scholarship once
- Four required short essays
- Official or unofficial transcripts
- Certifying study abroad and financial aid advisors
- Advisor certification deadline: March 4, 2027
